World Archery Releases Dates for Indoor Series and World Cups with two New USA Locations
Keep that calendar out.
We've got more dates for you.
The Indoor World Series began in November with two events and continues on in Taipei with the Taipei Archery Open, followed with almost a monthly instalment before the outdoor World Cup series kicks off in April, a week after the Arizona Cup (USA).
New to the World Archery calendar are two American dates, one for indoor and one for outdoor: Chicago, Illinois and Haines City, Florida.
The "Great Chicago Open" logo has been branded with flames, surely a nod to the "Great Chicago Fire" in the fall of 1871 (yes, you read that correctly, 1871, October 8-10, to be exact). The fire impacted the city significantly:
- Killed approximately 300 people
- Decimated roughly 4 square miles (10 square kilometres) of the centre of the city
- Levelled 17,500 structures
- Left more than 100,000 people homeless
- Destroyed 70+ miles/120km of roads, over 2000 lampposts, and 120 miles/190km of sidewalks
- It even jumped the river and continued on
- The damage caused is estimated at $222 million USD (in 1871), which equates to about $5.7 billion USD as of 2024.
How's that for an analogy for Archery? Flames, obliterated destruction, death, yet the city rose from the flames with donations from around the US and the world. (Archers need to rise from the ashes of a bad round and continue on.... A phoenix rising...yep, I'm seeing it now.)
If you're not familiar with the point system for the Indoor series, check out this article. As the Indoor World Series are open, anyone can participate in any of the events, except for the Finals being held in Vegas.
"Any athlete who is a member of a national archery federation recognised by World Archery may participate in the indoor series.
This means that all events are open to any archer around the world, giving amateurs the chance to rub shoulders with the elite athletes of the sport." (Source: "Beginners guide to the Indoor Archery World Series." Ludivine Maitre Wicki, www.worldarchery.sport, October 10, 2024.)
Archers must compete in at least two events (including The Vegas Shoot) to be eligible for the Finals in Las Vegas. Each event has been allocated a maximum number of points (250 or 1000). Points are accrued on the basis of the Archer's final ranking after eliminations, using the best three results over the season. The top 16 Archers in each category will be invited to compete at the Finals in Vegas.
World Archery will award the top 3 finishers in each category after the Finals:
1st place: 5000 Swiss Francs (CHF) = $8000 CAD/$5700 USD
2nd place: 2500 Swiss Francs (CHF) = $4000 CAD/$2900 USD
3rd place: 1500 Swiss Francs (CHF) = $2400/$1700 USD
